14 Premier comes out swinging at Q2!

After a Q1 filled with learning opportunities, 14 Premier started as a 4th seed for Q2. They would not finish there.

The girls came out firing in the very first set of the day, rallying from behind to beat Ridgecrest Starlings 14-Tigers in a nail biter, 25-23. In the 2nd set, some serve receive difficulty led to a 25-18 loss, but again, the girls responded and prevailed, capping off the match with a 15-7 win, courtesy of a well-placed kill by Captain, Regan Vogler.

The winning momentum carried into the second match against Oasis 14-Regional as the SG girls made quick work of their opposition 25-17, 25-19. Strong serving from Setter Kat Marks earned her the nickname “the Closer” as she aced Oasis off the court to finish the match.

As it turns out, the SG girls saved the best for last, which made for an epic battle with Oaks VBC 14-Silver for first place in the pool. Consistent, tough serving and vocal team defense helped them comfortably win the first set 25-16, but almost the opposite happened in the second set as they lost 16-25. A great test of 14 Premier’s character ended with a 15-11 victory as the whole team stormed the court and jumped for joy to celebrate their first undefeated day together.

“I’m proud of these girls. Finishing 1st while being seeded 4th is a tremendous accomplishment they should be incredibly proud of. That doesn’t happen often. I look forward to getting back in the gym and seeing where this team can go,” said Head Coach Alex Markarian.
